It’s finally the end of Project Runway season six, and Carol Hannah, Althea, and Irina get to show off their looks. The three were evenly matched with a solid concept, good models, and similar makeup consultations. I’ve been disappointed with the way this season turned out after its long hiatus, and I’m hoping that next season’s return to New York will be better.
In the end, I got the reunion show I was wondering about, in the form of Models of the Runway. It was the weirdest use of Project Runway’s footage because the models didn’t have any involvement in many of the videos.
The beginning of the episode was mostly an extension of the last: Carol Hannah is still sick, Irina looks at Althea jealously because Althea apparently is knocking her off, and Althea is crying under the pressure. Logan, Christopher, and Gordana do their best to help their designers and all the model fittings seem to go without a hitch. The girls makeup and hair consultations took place, but Althea and Irina’s similar taste kicks in again when they have similar smokey eyes. Truthfully, one contestant every finale wants the smokey eye look; I don’t think that Irina should be upset that Althea wanted a standard model look.
The girls arrive early to Bryant Park in the dark; all models show up at sunrise. It felt like there was less space this year than previously. There was something about the pre-final runway where no one was ready. They had months and all of their fittings looked like it went well. Hopefully it was just editing, because that would have proved that makeup and hair were taking too long. The finalists should have shown up an hour earlier than they did. It was nice seeing Tim throw a fit. He’s usually just concerned, but getting physically upset was a new emotion for Tim.
Along with a neon pink Heidi Klum, Nina, and Michael, our guest judge was Suzy Menkes. I was taken aback by her trademark hair and her loud print. Who am I to judge a judge’s fashion sense? As the models walked down for all the collections, I only liked five pieces on each of the collections. Althea’s strength was her separates, but I would have appreciated more color. There was a similarity between Althea’s and Irina’s knits with the extended arm look, but I was surprised how many knits showed up. I was expecting evening wear and dresses and got a lot of pants and separates. Carol Hannah’s collection was the most creative, but it suffered from a lack of cohesion. I disliked Irina’s felt hats until I realized that all the hats were different. Those hats were better than Althea’s headbands.
The judging was edited in such a way that I was convinced Carol Hannah would win. Suzy was so impressed by her pyramid dress. My biggest problem with Carol Hannah was the fact that her thirteenth look was exactly the same design as the dress that she was wearing, except longer. Irina was bashed for only picking black, but yet they liked the t-shirts that had purple accents. Irina’s collection needed more explanation to the judges about the layers with purples and grays underneath. Althea’s biggest problem was her cohesion, but she was praised for the fact that she could listen to the masses. I don’t think it’s hard to translate separate pieces and say that one person could wear the jacket or the pant. There’s a point where it gets too commercial, and Althea is barely above that line.
Irina was the winner because she had a concept, cohesion, and thought about accessories. With her win, Irina’s father cried and showed that he loved his daughter. Kalyn was excited, as well, while both Tanisha and Lisa still believed in their models.
Could Althea or Carol Hannah have won? Althea could have had a chance if she varied her pieces a little better with color and paced her storyline together. If the final three pieces weren’t the dresses, I think it would have helped. While Carol Hannah got compliments on her color, her best piece was her first; it was flirty and played with colors.

Project Runway Season 6 Episode 14 “Finale – Part 2″

So New York Fashion Week begins tonight for the Project Runway 6 final three – Althea, Irina and Carol Hannah. Unfortunately, the latter fell ill during the previous episode and left us all with a cliffhanger. Tonight we’ll find out what exactly happened to the sick contestant and more importantly, get to know the winner.
Having been joined by recently eliminated contestants, the designers finally head to Bryant Park for the last runway showdown. The finalists were asked to come up with a 12-piece collection for the show, but another surprise awaited them: a 13th garment.
Althea was paired with Logan, Irina with Gordana and Carol Hannah with Christopher. But it’s still down to the three ladies, who are vying for the top prize – an editorial feature in an issue of Marie Claire magazine, a cash prize of $100,000 to start their own line, and an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Paris.
Whether or not Carol Hannah will be going to Bryant Park remains to be seen, but hopefully she’ll miraculously recover again. If she doesn’t, this would be one sad show to watch. Her designs might be making their way to the catwalk, but her presence remains essential to this finale night.
The breakdowns begin once again as the deadline looms. Panic strikes each of the remaining designers and their partners. Admittedly, these three work better alone. But it’s definitely going to be chaotic with Gordana, Logan and Christopher there. What’s worse is Irina bossing them around.
Once again, we await yet another impressive runway show tonight on Project Runway, as with all finales. We’re also wondering what the judges have in store for the designs. Another thing that’s highly anticipated tonight is the winner of Models of the Runway, and it’s down to Kalyn, Lisa and Tanisha.
A number of fans are devastated at the recent elimination of one designer on Project Runway
- Gordana Gehlhausen. Many felt she didn’t deserve to lose the museum-inspired challenge last week, but even she herself knew Bryant Park wasn’t her next step.
On her interview with TV Guide, the
45-year-old contestant discussed why she thought she’d never make it to the finale. She wasn’t at all surprised that she was criticized for her last design.
“I knew that the critique was going to happen, because that’s how it was through the whole show for me,” she said. Even though it sounds a bit pessimistic, it really was just the reality she was expecting.
“I knew I’m not going to make it to the top three,” Gordana went on. She even said that she noticed it as Tim Gunn, their mentor, walked straight into the workroom to comment on her work.
“When Tim Gunn came to critique, I just saw it on his face,” the designer explained. “[He] knew I was going to be kicked off already.”
She’d already given up, but not for those she deeply cares about. At the start of the competition, Gordana promised herself that what she’s doing isn’t just to please the judges. It was to prove her ability and determination to herself and her loved ones.
“Even at the beginning of the challenge, I kept stating that this was not for the judges,” Gordana said. “This was for me, this was for my family and my friends and my country.”
Still, the designer had a lot to say about her Project Runway
experience – that is, its aftermath. “I would love to do after-school programs for children and to do like, Design with Gordana. “I would love to be able to have some kind of program where children can go become designers.”
Gordana Gehlhausen added, “Anything I want to do in my life I want to do in a way where I’m also inspiring others. This show never was for me. This show was for the little lost girl that I was.”
You may get a sense of déjà vu on tonight’s episode of Project Runway, since “The Art of Fashion” has already been done before. This time, though, it’s a whole new batch of designers and possibly even a double elimination.
There are five contestants left, and it’s the last challenge right before fashion week. Is Project Runway going to follow the Top 3 tradition or bring it yet another twist to the finals? But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, let’s focus on what’s up tonight.
On this season’s “The Art of Fashion,” the designers are brought out on a field trip to this museum where works of art are displayed. They might be making outfits based on a painting, or whatever will inspire them among those they see.
Unfortunately, the judges aren’t seeing art from art in the designs produced by the contestants. From the trailer of last week’s episode, everyone’s all panicking and the results aren’t that spectacular as anyone hoped. Heidi Klum even pointed out that one design looked like a “mess fest.”
If tonight’s “The Art of Fashion” will be like season 4’s, then we could get teased by a double elimination and be surprised. Then again, we’re just making guesses. Heidi better not fool us again.
On the previous episode of Project Runway, the designers came face to face with series alum Nick Verreos to determine “The Best of the Best.” The challenge was to create a companion piece from a winning look they’ve designed in the past. Althea was the one who won the challenge, while Gordana and Logan landed on the bottom two.
Logan took a risk with his project and tried to “turn up the volume,” but the judges found his design too much to bear. Heidi criticized him for not being able to edit, which eventually led him to be eliminated from the competition.

Project Runway Episode 11 “The Best of the Best”

As we get closer and closer to the end of another season of Project Runway, the designers are having a tougher time dealing with the challenges. Why? Because it’s getting more difficult with every episode, in addition to being more star-studded.
On tonight’s Project Runway installment, we get “The Best of the Best.” It could be bad news for the designers, since they’re about to be “faced with their biggest competition yet.”
The preview that trailed after last episode showed something new in the history of the reality series, as the designers were asked to face away from the runway. The remaining six contenders are in for a surprise, and Heidi Klum is about to give it to them.
Of course, that’s all we get from that. Then come the barrage of adjectives, referring to how troublesome the next challenge is going to be. Christopher refers to it as “the most horrifying moment” of the show, but we’re pretty sure these guys are easy victims to hyperboles.
Even Tim Gunn is worried about the outcome of the designs, and it looks like black is prevalent among them. The fashion guru tells one contestant that the product looks like it “needs a diaper,” something you definitely wouldn’t want to hear from your mentor.
As for tonight’s guest judge, Entertainment Weekly reports that it’s going to be Kerry Washington. The actress has appeared on films like Ray, Fantastic Four and The Last King of Scotland. Aside from that, she’s managed to co-direct the music video “I Want You” by hip-hop artist Common. She’s also a spokesperson for L’Oreal.
At the risk of sounding too much like Heidi introducing the judges, I’ll be stopping that now. However, another little tidbit that the publication revealed for tonight’s episode is the fact that there’s yet another guest popping up, other than Washington. Apparently, an alum of Project Runway will be on “The Best of the Best” as well.
Is it possible that he or she will be part of the competition? Find out tonight as Project Runway airs at 10pm on Lifetime.
Jules Verne will be so proud that pop culture has used the title of his novel several times, but we can’t be sure if he’ll be happy with tonight’s episode of Project Runway. We hear there’s just more than one designer who will be eliminated tonight, surely a bad sign.
On “Around the World in Two Days,” the big surprise we’ll be getting is not just in the challenge, but also the judges. That’s because all three of the show’s original judges will be sitting on those chairs beside the catwalk. T hat’s right, Heidi, Nina and Michael are back as a team ready to critique the designers. What’s more, actress Milla Jovovich of Resident Evil fame is joining them.
Kicking monster butt on the big screen isn’t the only thing she’s good at, since Milla has teamed up with model Carmen Hawk for their own fashion label. They’re the brains behind Jovovich-Hawk, sold at Fred Segal in stores all over the world. They even designed a line for Target.
Anyway, it’s off to Michael Kors’ boutique at Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, as Heidi Klum said on the preview. It’s not exactly the whole world, but there’s bound to be more to come on tonight’s Project Runway challenge. By the way, our host tells us that it’s going to be a “secret challenge” as well.
As far as secrets in competitions go, this doesn’t sound too good. The title might point to designing for something you can travel in, given the deadline of two days. But haven’t they already made clothes like that in a previous season? Again, there has to be another twist to this.
As usual, there’s drama among the contestants just like you would have when a kid keeps kicking the back of your chair in an airplane. The very driven Irina rubs the others the wrong way, making it clear that she is this season’s Not-here-to-make-friends type. Okay, but she does have to deal with everyone as she works.

It’s Tim Gunn’s turn to make it work, and that definitely won’t be much of a problem for the guy. The Project Runway
mentor has been tapped for a cameo on the upcoming sequel for Sex and the City, joining the ranks of Penelope Cruz, Liza Minelli, Jason Lewis and Miley Cyrus.
According to E! Online and confirmed by New Line Cinema, the fashion guru will be appearing as himself in the film. Right now, he’s shooting his scenes in New York City. It was reported earlier that Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus was spotted with Kim Cattrall
for their wardrobe duplication bit. Now, it’s Tim’s turn.
For his Sex and the City
role, Tim Gunn will be appearing alongside Sarah Jessica Parker. He isn’t new to the woman’s presence, as they’ve worked once before. It was in Project Runway that they shared the spotlight, when the actress was invited as a guest judge for the show.
It was way back in 2007 that Sarah Jessica Parker gave contestants a $15 budget to create an item for her clothing line Bitten. I suppose it’s worth mentioning that this was Christian Siriano’s season, which I didn’t really watch but should’ve. Anyway, let’s get on with more news about the Sex and the City 2 cameos.
While there haven’t been a lot of details regarding Tim Gunn’s role in the film, the only certainty we have is that he’s playing himself. The 56-year-old fashion guru will pay a visit to Carrie Bradshaw and friends, but that’s all we know so far.
Let’s just speculate the possibilities of his role, shall we? Well, there’s personal fashion advisor to Carrie, or even something as simple as telling her to make it work. Whatever the case, we’re all excited for Tim Gunn. Don’t miss his cameo when Sex and the City 2 premieres next summer.
Jason Meyers, the Project Runway Canada competitor, definitely has his naysayers in the Canadian fashion world: there were several magazine editors and local fashion peeps like Adrian Mainella Twittering about last night’s collection’s similarity to recent runway shows (including Jil Sander) and general mediocrity, and a few post-show giggles at the designer’s trademark sunglasses-and-dangly-earrings look and triumphant fist-pumping at his presentation’s conclusion.
But, regardless of what the haters had to say about Meyers, there were a few good pieces in his collection that shows his growth since his stint on Project Runway Canada.
My favourites included slim-fitting lilac pants; a simple pale-pink frock with a waist-height, big eighties ruffle; high-waisted pants paired with a hot-pink big-sleeved bolero; and a fuschia frock with old-fashioned covered buttons all the way up the back and cartoonishly large Jetsons-like shoulders.
Design a dress for a divorcee using their old wedding dress. Yikes.
The challenge was extra difficult because the divorcees were also used as the models — and a couple of them were “difficult” clients. Shirin’s client for example wanted a “Cher Half Breed” look with peacock feathers — which caused her to break down in Tim Gunn’s arms. I was quite happy that it happened though because we got another “I love you Tim Gunn” moment. I want Tim to be beside me during those difficult times in my life when someone insists on peacock feathers that will never work. He just makes everything better.
So Shirin cries. Tim soothes and gives advice. And Shirin shines! I thought she was not going to pull it off, but she ended up with one of the Top 3 designs.
Gordana (still my favorite) also had an emotional moment tonight when she called her family. The divorcee challenge triggered something in her since she was also a divorcee. I really loved the look she put on the runway, and for the first time, she won a challenge and gets immunity (the last) for next week. Yay!
In the Bottom 3:
Christopher with another hideous “this is who I am as a designer” embarrassment.
Logan with a pantsuit that was poorly made. He tried to follow the client’s wishes too much that he lost his own design aesthetic.
And Epperson with an outfit Heidi Klum slammed as “Oktoberfest”. It was brutal.
Because Logan is eyecandy and the producers want to torture us with Christopher’s designs, Epperson is auf’d.
In Models of the Runway…
Some confusion with Gordana and her former model Tara. Gordana thought Althea was going to choose Tara — keeping her safe — so that Gordana could use Matar whom she chose the previous week but was not able to use because of this week’s challenge. But Althea chose her old model, and Tara was out.
A lot of crying after.
