“Project Runway” will feature a new face in the judging panel when it returns for an 11th season. Lifetime has announced that Michael Kors leaves his regular judge post vacant due to scheduling issues, but he will return as a judge in the season 11 finale.
“Always part of the Project Runway family, Michael will be seen in the future on the show,” so the network says, “and we are excited to confirm that Michael will be back as a judge for season 11 finale.” Kors joined the reality series in the first season.
To replace Kors, designer Zac Posen has been tapped as a featured judge and will join returning judges Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn. “When I was a guest judge, I saw he was always a generous, warm mentor,” Posen says of his predecessor.
The judge line-up isn’t the only thing that will be different in the next installment since the show has also announced a new twist. The upcoming season will see 16 aspiring designers competing as teams instead of individuals for every challenge.
Meanwhile, the guest judges include celebrities Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon, Miranda Lambert, John Legend, Joan Rivers & Melissa Rivers, Emmy Rossum, Kristin Davis and Jordana Brewster, as well as designers Rachel Roy, Tracy Reese, Chris Benz and Christian Siriano who won “Project Runway” in 2007.
The 11th season “Project Runway” will premiere Thursday, January 24, 2013 on Lifetime. The winner will get $100,000 from L’Oreal Paris to start his/her own line, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a 2013 Lexus GS 350, a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel, and sell an exclusive collection at Lord & Taylor.
It was down to four designers in the “Project Runway” season 10 finale which saw the remaining contestants took part in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Fabio Costa, Melissa Fleis, Christopher Palu and Dmitry Sholokov were the ones vying for the winning title and the grand prize, but only one of them would be declared the victor.
Leading to the final runway, the four finalists were challenged to improve their designs. Fabio had to make his collections look more luxurious, Dmitry’s works shouldn’t cros into matron territory, Christopher had to be restyled, and Melissa needed to show more colors.
After consultations, Dmitry and Fabio looked relaxed while Melissa and Christopher were hectic with their unfinished clothes. Still, Tim Gunn managed to reduce the tension felt by the contestants when he brought champagne.
At the runway in New York, Jennifer Hudson joined the judges. She praised Dmitry’s collection, which included a bright yellow cocktail dress with jeweled cap sleeves and a shorter halter dress hemmed with fringe, as “rich.”
Melissa’s “blood orange” gown was a standout among her other clothes, and Heidi Klum liked the “tough chick” vibe. Still, the judges said it lacked surprise. Christopher, meanwhile, seemingly pushed himself to be edgy and strayed away from his romantic side.
Last but not least, Fabio’s “Cosmic Tribalism” collection mixed pastel shades, layers and the flowing silhouettes that worked together. Heidi “loved, loved, loved” how fluid the whole collection was and Jennifer said he “nailed it.”
After giving their opinions, the judges announced Dmitry as the winner. “Dmitry, you have your wings now, so go and fly,” Heidi told the former ballroom dancer. He expressed his happiness, “This is the biggest day of my life. I just won ‘Project Runway’ and I don’t know how the f**k I made it to this point… I’m beyond happy and proud.”
Dmitry was entitled to $100,000 from L’Oreal Paris to start his own line, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a 2013 Lexus GS 350, and a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel. He’s also given a chance to design and sell an exclusive collection at Lord & Taylor.
“Project Runway: All-Stars” had a unique theme in the third episode. The remaining eleven contestants were assigned to create a “flamboyant cocktail dress for one of the most famous fashionitas” in the world, which turned out to be Miss Piggy from “The Muppets“.
The designers then headed to Mood where they could spend $350 on materials in only a half hour. Gordana noticed that some of them bought black materials, but she and April used pink. She also explained that she would explore the youthful and feminine side of the women.
In the workroom, the pressure was on and arguments erupted because Mondo and Kara wanted to use the same pink gloves from the Neiman Marcus accessory wall. The quarrel was soon over after Mondo let Kara have them, although he was not happy.
When Joanna showed up to mentor, she told Gordana that her dress looked too “nightgownish” at the moment. She, however, advised, “I don’t think comfort should really matter when you’re dressing a mega-celebrity like Miss Piggy.”
The episode presented another drama as Mila got annoyed that Kara and Kenley became “quite codependent.” She argued, “This isn’t a team competition. Only one person can win.”
At the runway, judges Angela Lindvall, Georgina Chapman and Eric Daman were joined by Miss Piggy while Isaac Mizrahi was away for this week. Looking formal in a grey blazer and a red skirt, the puppet also gave comment on the designers’ works.
The judges then called out the top and bottom six. For Austin’s combo of pink and grey, Georgina praised the beautiful construction, but the pink is wrong. Eric thought the dress wouldn’t look good on a normal-sized woman. Miss Piggy’s comment was, “Can you hula hoop in that?”
Rami got good reviews with Eric calling it fun. Miss Piggy said, “The most garish, outlandish, ridiculous thing I have ever seen and I love it.” For Gordana’s dress, Angela said it was too understated and sophisticated, while the puppet added, “It’s a fine, fine dress. I don’t know if it’s moi.”
Michael’s dress was a great success as Georgina said it was “sophisticated.” Miss Piggy agreed as saying, “I love the dress. It looks like a present!” Angela thought Mila did not give her best with her dress, while Georgina thought it should have more color. Miss Piggy chimed in, “I like that it’s retro. It just doesn’t scream Miss Piggy!”
Eric loved Kenley’s dress, calling it cute and whimsical. Miss Piggy joked, “I do love the hat though because after a big night out on the town, I can use the hat to clean my pots and pans.”
After some discussion, the judges decided Michael won the challenge. It was between Gordana and Mila who were in danger of getting eliminated, before it was later revealed that Gordana must pack her bags.
Gordana said she is thankful for the opportunity and felt it’s “a great honor to be here.” She added, “The one thing that I want to say to people – especially women my age who have given up their lives to raise their families and send their kids to college – is that it’s never too late to follow your own dream, whatever that might be.”
Anya Ayoung-Chee has been named the champion of “Project Runway” season 9, beating out three other remaining contestants. The 29-year-old designer initially looked like she almost gave up her shot at winning the coveted title as she told Tim Gunn that she was not 100 percent happy with her collection.
Earlier in the second part of the finale, the four finalists were given a shopping spree at Mood with a $500 budget. Anya and Viktor Luna used this opportunity to rework some of their designs. The former picked white and black fabrics which did not fit the original color pattern of her collection, while the latter scrapped his gown for a new sexy black cheetah print fitted dress.
When Tim visited Anya, she admitted that she felt her new looks were not the best of her work. Meanwhile, Joshua McKinley became frustrated when he still had a lot of work to do two days before the runway show. Kimberly Goldson created a drama backstage at Fashion Week when she lost her sewing kit and needed a zipper. Fortunately, Anya was there to give her a hand.
The four finalists finally showed their collections at the Fashion Week in Lincoln Center. Kimberly had a Brooklyn-themed collection which was fairly accessible and wearable. Next was Josh’s which was dedicated to his mother, but Tim thought he did not seem to be trying to give his best with it.
Viktor’s collection was inspired by Mexico, but it is still wearable in New York City as he described it beach girl meets city. Anya’s, meanwhile, was inspired by Tobago and oozed easy, sexy vibe.
After some considerations, the judges narrowed down the potential winners to Anya and Josh. In the end, the judges decided that Anya deserved the champion title as they thought they could picture what a future Anya shoe or bag or dress might look like. She took home $100,000 from L’Oreal Paris, a fashion spread in Marie Claire, a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel and the opportunity to design and sell a collection on Piperlime.com.
Soon Project Runway episodes will come to an end for this season as final three contestants (later it was made four) have been selected to put up their creativity in the Fashion week. So this week we had final five namely Kimberly, Laura, Anya, Viktor and Josh competing in the final challenge to be amongst the final three.
This week’s Project Runway Season 9 Episode 12 started off with all the five heading towards the Governor’s beautiful Island. Not for having a good time but for start of their challenge. Tim was there who told them that they had to make three different looks and all the looks need to be inspired from the beauty of the island. For this they were given cameras to capture which beauty they would like to choose.
Each one of the contestants chose their options the most different which I felt was that of Laura who had selected Circles that she saw on the island. Circles were main thing in her outfits which didn’t appeal to me much.
Before all the designers could start their work in episode 12 of Project Runway Season 9 we had Tim coming with a surprise. And that surprise was Last 5 eliminated contestants joining them to pair with five finalists.
During the episode 12 of Project Runway Season 9 we saw differences in Anya and Josh just because Anya had won last week’s challenge and Josh didn’t feel that she deserved. But I didn’t think so and most of all judges sitting there are not fools to choose a wrong one without skills.
Finally we had all their outfits presented in front of the judges, which included guest judge of Project Runway Season 9 Episode 12, Zoe Saldana. Zoe is a well known actress and a founder of fashion website also. All these judges together chose Anya, Viktor and Josh as the final three going to Fashion week. Later on Kimberly was also added to it. But Laura’s circles took her back home.

As the weeks are passing by the Project Runway episodes is nearing its end and soon we will have the winning designer. But till then we have some extraordinary challenges which have enabled the designers to think innovatively and design outfits inspired by anything. Likewise this week’s episode had designs inspired from a common yet exceptional living thing. Read on to know what all happened in the episode.
Project Runway Season 9 Episode 11 had the designers entering a room having birds and at that moment only everybody would have got an idea that the birds had something to do with this week’s challenge. All the designers were asked to create outfits that would be inspired from the birds.
Later in Project Runway Season 9 Episode 11 we saw that all the contestants were paired into a team of two and the pairs were: Anya & Laura, Bert & Josh and Viktor & Kimberly. Each of the team was given a bird but the main drawback of this pairing was that the team was not of two partners but of two competitors who had to compete in a head to head challenge.
The designers worked really hard to make outfits and we had Tim making the challenge more tough by bringing in a twist that was to design a second look also. But later in this episode 11 of Project Runway Season 9 Tim said that only one look will go on the runway. The contestants had to decide which look should go forward.
Finally the designs were presented in front of the judges, which included guest judge, Francisco Costa, woman’s Creative Director for Calvin Klein’s Collection. Everyone liked Anya’s silhouette making her the winner of Project Runway Season 9 Episode 11 and winning her $20,000 cash prize and advertorial in Marie Claire magazine. Bert was sent back home.

I always find Project Runway episodes interesting as the challenges given to contestants get even more interesting each time I see the next episode. Likewise after last week’s designing dresses for male clients to be given to their lady loves this week also I saw an interesting episode. Read on to know what all happened in this week’s episode.
This week’s Project Runway Season 9 Episode 9 started off with Tim Gunn coming to the designers and telling their challenge for the week. The challenge was that in two teams they had to design outfits for a band named “Sheepdogs” and with that outfit the band will be featured in a Marie Claire advertorial and in Rolling Stone also. Not only this but the band will be wearing that to one of their events also. Now that makes the challenge worth competing.
All the eight designers were divided into two teams; Team untitled consisting of Oliver, Viktor, Kimberly & Josh and Team Harmony consisted of Bert, Anthony, Anya & Laura. In Project Runway Season 9 Episode 9 first they started off working together but soon instead of working as a team they started working for themselves as individuals.
The designers were first visited by Frank Butler and then by the band “Sheepdogs” members, members did give their judgments on the outfits that was taken care of by few. We also saw performances of the band in front of the judges in the outfits in this Project Runway Season 9 Episode 9.
Judges included the guest judge of Project Runway Season 9 Episode 9, Adam Lambert. All of them together judged all the designs declaring Viktor’s outstanding jacket as the winning design and eliminating Oliver.

After Josh C’s eviction last week we had Project Runway episodes left with only 10 designers now. And as the days are passing by the competition is increasing with difficult challenges being put up by the judges for the contestants. This week in Project Runway Season 9 episode we had designers being divided into two teams each of five and then they had to create a complete fashion show. Now that is a really tuff challenge as fashion show means music, lights, designs and video.
Project Runway Season 9 Episode 7 divided all the remaining 10 contestants into two teams namely, Team Chaos and Team Nuts & Bolts. Team Chaos consisted of Anthony Ryan, Anya, Victor, Bryce and Oliver. And Team Nuts & Bolts consisted of Josh M, Laura, Becky, Bert and Kim. Out of these Josh M was the most disturbing of them all as his behavior always creates problem.
Both the teams were given two days for completing this challenge and they had to create their own textiles. Project Runway Season 9 Episode 7 also brought in the renowned designer, Betsy Johnson for giving tips to the contestants and she advised them to go for cohesive collection.
Designers Rachel Roy and actress Rose Byrne were the guest jury in this Project Runway Season 9 Episode. These two judges along with other judges viewed the fashion shows of both teams and declared that Team Chaos as winners. But there had to be an individual winner also and that went to Anya for her design, this made her safe for next week. Then came the elimination stage and Beck was the one who had to leave the runway.

Molly Sims has been tapped to host and judge on Lifetime’s new show “Project Accessory”. The network announced on Wednesday, September 7 that the 38-year-old model/actress has double duties like Heidi Klum does on “Project Runway“.
Joining Sims on the judging panel are designer Kenneth Cole and InStyle editor Ariel Foxman. Meanwhile, Lifestyle expert Eva Lorenzotti will mentor the 12 competing artists.
“Throughout the intense competition, their ingenuity will be pushed to the edge in creating one-of-a-kind jewelry, belts, bags, shoes, headpieces and other wares as they showcase their talents and ability to revolutionize the accessories business,” Lifetime said of the competition in a statement.
The eight episodes of “Project Accessory” will start airing later this year following “Project Runway All Stars”. It is the second spin-off to the fashion competition series after “Models of the Runway” which lasted for two seasons.
Sims herself is no stranger to accessories. She has launched her own jewelry collection, Grayce by Molly Sims, last year. “Growing up, my mother instilled in me a true appreciation for jewelry and helped me to build my own jewelry wardrobe through her passion of going to estate auctions, flea markets and consignment stores,” the “The Pink Panther 2” star once said.
Last week in Project Runway episode we had designers making outfits to go with Heidi Klum’s designed sneakers. And this week we had judges asking the designers to mix art with their fashion. This challenge was really interesting as both art and fashion require creativity and mixing them properly can do wonders.
In Project Runway Season 9 Episode 6 we had contestants visiting The Harlem School of Arts and pairing with a young art student and creating a piece of art. Later the designers had to use their own made piece of art as an inspiration for an avant-grade look. Some of the designers did not seemed satisfied with the idea of young partners but then nothing could be done they had to work with them on the piece of art.
As soon as the piece of art was ready designers had 30 minutes to sketch their avant-grade design. Then we saw all of them working hard on their outfits in this Project Runway Season 9 episode 6.
After the designs were made they were presented in front of the judges which included guest judges of this Project Runway Season 9 Episode 6 namely, Marie Claire Senior Fashion Editor Zanna Roberts Rassi and Legendary Fashion Designer, Kenneth Cole.
And finally came the results of the Project Runway Season 9 Episode 6‘s challenge. Kimberly, Viktor, Anya, Bryce and Becky were put in the safe zone first and following them were Oliver, Laura, Josh M and Bert. Anthony Ryan’s designs were the ones that were loved the most by the judges and thus making him the winner this week. And Josh C. was eliminated once again.
